Tea-a-tete

Tea-a-tete

I steep in your presence
your interest draws from me
thoughts I had stashed

We brew a future
infused with possibility
fragrant with hope

cosy in each others company
our dreams in the pot
at the end of Celestial

it is time to uphold ceremony
and become a party
to our unique blend

**************

The lovely tea poster from Tabatha Yeatts (a perk of being part of the poem swaps Tabatha has organized) brought to mind this poem I wrote a few months ago.

Drinking tea with a friend or lover seems like a good activity for the cold and dreary days of January (dreary here, anyway… where there is no snow, but it has rained the creek full of water that, by the way, is the colour of tea with milk).

poetry+friday+button+-+fulllThis poem is submitted to Poetry Friday, hosted this week by the always full-of-surprises Renee La Tulippe at her blog No Water River.

Coffee or tea poems are also welcome at Tweetspeak Poetry, where January’s  challenge is to write a poem about coffee or tea. Post in the comments.

    1. Thanks Iza! It was fun trying to fit in all the tea words I could think of.

January is National Tea Month? I didn’t know that. Well, I’m on topic for a change *grin.*

  1. Love the poem, Violet. I just happen to be drinking some PG Tips right now! Yes, it’s National Tea Month — as well as Soup Month and Oatmeal Month :). Thanks for the nice warm brew today.

  2. Beautiful poem! We’re tea drinkers in our house – even my 9 year old who hosts tea parties with piping hot peppermint tea.. It has been our weekly treat since she got a new tea set for Christmas. Thanks for celebrating tea today.

  3. Perfect post! Thanks for sharing. The poem is enchanting and so is Tabatha’s image. We have JUST this week introduced afternoon tea in my house – hubby and I are both working from home now, and I thought we should have a late afternoon catch-up. Who knew it was National Tea Month?! :0) (I’ve just been to England once, but I sure fell in love with that custom….)

    1. What a fun idea–to have a formal afternoon tea! And will you be serving scones and clotted cream along with that, then have dinner fashionably late? I love those routines in British novels.

  4. We certainly needed tea today, very cold & snowy! Violet you use words with such cleverness. I love the use of tea in this relationship-just great. These “We brew a future/infused with possibility/fragrant with hope” are wonderful, and special to me. Thank you!

  5. What a nice pairing! The name of your poem is very clever and I love the sentiment 🙂 I didn’t realize it was National Tea Month. They’re all tea month to me!
