As I mentioned in part 1, Dawson Trail, in Dawson Creek, B.C. is lined with granite boulders that have tanka engraved on them. These poems celebrate the seasons, flowers, birds, and critters of the area. If you missed part 1, it’s HERE.
Here are four more poems you’ll find on the Dawson Trail. If they leave you shivering, just know that winter is long in these northern parts. It’s no wonder the cold gets an extra poem or two.

On the last page of the Dawson Creek City document it tells the authors’ names: The revealing of the stones was done on Oct. 17, and places the poetry of Donna Kane, Marilyn Belak, Megan Kane, and Rebekah Rempel onto eight large stones.”

These are amazing unusual finds in such a cold place. These stones prove that poetry is a window into life.

What a generous gift to nature and nature-lovers. The “frenzied bare branches” was my favorite of these tanka, though I also love “pouting buds” and bees as “small deities.”
