I am a member of the Port Kells Art Club, a local art group which supports local artists with education and show opportunities. Through that group I’ve met many wonderful local artists, including Gail Aitchison.
Gail Aitchison
Gail is an accomplished and experienced artist. On top of organizing the sales for PKAC, she recently put together a solo show of almost 40 paintings. “The Beauty of Nature” collection is currently on view at the Newton Cultural Centre Gallery (13530 – 72nd Ave., Surrey BC).

Some of the paintings in Gail’s “The Beauty of Nature” show (photographed by me at the show’s public reception earlier this month). All paintings are © Gail Aitchison. You can also view her entire show online HERE until the 28th of March. Congratulations, Gail!
More PKAC Artists
I volunteer as PKAC’s webmaster. One of things I most enjoy about this job is posting new art (in“Meet the Artists”). A call for folks to submit their bio and art earlier this week netted three new sets of beautiful paintings.
Marlene Serdult is an accomplished painter with lots of experience painting florals, folk art, and landscapes. She mostly works in watercolor, though she is also trained in other media. I love her “Retired Tugboat” painting. She uses her hobby of photography to supplement her stash of reference photos—something I love to do too. Meet Marlene Serdult.
Joyce Jao sent some stunning watercolours. You’ve got to see these! Her loose style reminds me of the paintings of British watercolour diva Jean Haines. Joyce has captured that same beautiful flowing atmosphere that directs the eye to an area of focus with a few well-placed hard edges and precise details. Meet Joyce Jao.
Bonita Rae Jackson’s paintings were a surprise. After reading her bio, where she describes her love of painting landscapes, I expected landscapes. What we get from her, though, is incredible portraiture. These are fun, modern in their looseness and use of colour, and just brimming with personality. Another must-see! Meet Bonita Rae Jackson.
These are just a few of my talented friends at the Port Kells Art Club. If you’d like to meet more, follow the linked names on the “Meet the Artists” page.
And you can meet these folks and see this artistic variety in person! Consider coming to our Spring Exhibition and Sale.
