He is here

He is here

“He is here, hallelujah, He is here, amen…”
This is the melody soundtracks my night and my day
repeats and repeats itself over and over again
“He is here – Hallelujah. He is here – Amen!”
When my heart feels despairing, abandoned, reminding me then
He under me, over, surrounding, beside the whole way
“He is HERE. Hallelujah! He is HERE. Amen.”
These are the lyrics that soundtrack my night and my day.

This is a form poem called a Triolet. It was the featured form on One Stop Poetry this week. The instructions for writing it say, in part: “Many poets begin writing a Triolet by finding a preliminary but memorable couplet. These two lines are strong enough and interesting enough to open the stanza, close the stanza, and provide more than half of the 8 lines of the poem…

I don’t know if my repeating lines are either strong or memorable, but they occurred to me during the night when I realized the song in my head was the one that had been playing off and on for a while now – ever since the Friday night some weeks ago hubby and I first heard it during the Gaither Gospel Hour on Canada’s Vision Channel.

Listen to the beautiful “He is Here,” exquisitely sung by Wes Hampton and the Gaither Vocal Band, and I think you’ll understand why I can’t get it out of my head, or heart.
