Two halves
A bigger half
is mathematician’s
impossibility.
But such a thing
when cutting pie
ever a probability.

Today, January 23rd, is National Pie Day! I’m sure the Pie Council won’t have a problem with prolonging the celebrations into Poetry Friday.
The little poem (above) was one of my November poem-a-day efforts. Given my disability in the pie-cutting department, I’m thinking probably the best way to divvy up the pie, at least at my house, is to make individual pies for each person!
And here to help with your next pie party are some pie-making tips from the aforementioned Pie Council.
This post is part of Poetry Friday, hosted today by Tara at A Teaching Life.
hadn’t thought about it like that before…

Kiwiskan, I think it started with the expression “bigger half” rolling around in my head and then the thought, such a thing is really an impossibility. One never knows when a poem will hit!

I imagine many would look at the cutting, and want that ‘bigger half’, Violet. Fun observation!

Love your poem…and your pie, Violet. When my girls share anything that requires cutting it in half, I let one cut, then the other one chooses which piece she wants. The cutter tends to make the pieces as equal as possible. =)

What a brilliant idea, Bridget, not only for your girls, but also for you, the retired referee.

Only in the math books are pies cut in half! And they don’t look so yummy, so who cares? I’d take the smaller “half” of a real pie!

You’re right, Donna. A “half” of any pie would be lots for me.

So true. That’s why one person cuts and the other chooses first!
