Show and Sell

Our art club’s spring show and sale is just over a week away. I’ve been busy framing paintings, getting my small items ready for the bargain table, and sorting through cards. Today I’m going to share with you the paintings I’ll be taking to the show.

“Forest Toes” and “Family Tree”

These two 8×10” acrylic paintings were inspired by last year’s vacation in Powell River, BC. The Willingdon Beach Trail nestled between a whole forest of these nurse trees with their fabulously interesting root formations. (Acrylic, on canvas panel.)

“Family Tree”

“Carrot Collage”

This 13.75 x 11 inch acrylic is the second version I’ve done of this arrangement of rainbow carrots, observed and photographed at a farmers’ market some years ago. The first version was done in watercolour. Fortunately I keep all my drawings, so was able to transfer the drawing onto canvas and begin again. (Acrylic on canvas panel.)

“Carrot Collage”

“Summer Window”

I loved the bright display of this hanging basket, seen last summer on a walk around West Kelowna, BC. I also love the shadow –which was surprisingly challenging to paint. (Acrylic, on canvas panel, 10 x 8 inches.)

“Summer Window”

“Seagull’s Patio”

The reference for this 11 x 13.75 acrylic painting was taken in Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, on our vacation there in 2018. I just loved the Adirondack chairs in rainbow colours on the deck facing the iconic Peggy’s Cove scene with fishing shacks and boats. This is also a second version painting—the first done in watercolour. Getting the chair shapes accurate was a huge challenge (please observe with forgiving eyes!). I painted a seagull into this scene to distinguish this painting from the former one. (Acrylic on canvas panel.)

Goldy”

This painting brings back memories of a trip to the Vancouver Aquarium many years ago, when the grandkids were little. I’ll never forget their awe-filled faces as they observed the fish-filled tanks, Beluga whales, and frolicking otters. (Acrylic, on canvas panel, 8 x 10 inches)

“Goldy”

“Beachcomber”

This painting captures another holiday memory—a walk along the beach at Sidney BC, just before catching the ferry home after a lovely vacation week on Vancouver Island. I enjoyed the landscape ambience of this photo, never noticing the little person until I enlarged it. Once I had seen her, she had to be the subject of this little tableau. (Acrylic on canvas panel, 8 x 10 inches)

“Beachcomber”

“Barnacle Beach”

The reference for this photo was taken on Salt Spring Island BC, another vacation memory. I’ve held this photo in my “Photos to Paint” album forever! Finally decided to tackle it with acrylics last week. What do you think? (Acrylic, on canvas panel, 8 x 10 inches)

“Barnacle Beach”

Our show and sale is a week from Sunday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Fort Langley Hall, 9167 Glover Road, Fort Langley, BC. If you’re in the area, this is your invitation to attend. Our club (Port Kells Art Club) has so many accomplished artists painting in a variety of styles and media. You’ll love it!
